Lace Cowl Class

from $60.00

Wednesdays March 12, 19 and 26

5:30-7:30pm

Teacher: Kim Hamlin

Trying a new cowl pattern is a great way to boost your knitting skills. Unlike other projects, getting an exact gauge is not crucial for success... meaning… we can dive right into the fun stuff! Even if you don’t NEED a new cowl… it’s always great to have a handmade gift waiting in the wings.

We will be using the Fall Feathers Cowl pattern, by Whitney Harmon. The pattern combines increases and decreases to create the wavy texture. If you don’t know what that means, it’s fine! We’re going to help you! Some may challenge themselves even more by using two colors, or a thinner yarn mixed with mohair.

Newer knitters are welcome to join, but we ask that you already know how to knit, purl and cast on without assistance. You will learn how to knit in the round, increase and decrease stitches, how to make a yarn over, and how to block your project to enhance the lace pattern. All great building blocks for more advanced projects!

Materials are not included in the class fee, but you will receive 10% off supplies purchased at Fiber & Vine!

Requirements:

  • You must already know how to knit, purl, cast on/off without assistance to take this class.

  • Please purchase materials beforehand, or come early to the first class.

  • If you want to use yarn from your stash, please check with us in advance to make sure it will work!

Materials:

  • 200-220 yards Worsted or Aran weight yarn (OR a lighter weight yarn mixed with mohair. OR the same yardage divided into two colors for stripes.)

  • US# 7 16” Circular needle.

  • Stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, scissors.

  • You will receive a printed copy of the knitting pattern.
