Thursdays, November 21, December 5 & 12

10:30am-12 -OR- 5:30-7pm

Part class, part hang out, a Knit-a-Long (aka KAL) aims to provide you with the time and motivation to finish your project, while introducing you to new people and skills.

We will be using a pattern from Comfort & Joy by Melynda Bernardi. This Digital booklet has seven different Christmas stocking patterns to choose from, along with additional motifs and an alphabet chart to help you personalize your stocking. We absolutely adore this pattern book, and find ourselves turning to it again, and again to knit heirloom quality gifts for friends and family. This is a great opportunity to learn duplicate stitch for motifs and letters, or give color work knitting a try!

We have a variety of yarns at the shop that would be wonderful for this pattern, or feel free to bring something from your stash. KAL members will receive 10% off supplies purchased at Fiber & Vine for this event.

Class Materials Required

  • 220-300 Yards worsted weight yarn in a variety of colors, depending on your pattern. If using stash yarn, please check with us to see if it will work first!

  • Gauge: 19 stitches = 4”

  • US # 6/ 4 mm double pointed needles, or 12-16” circular needle. Or size needed to get gauge.

  • tapestry needle

  • stitch marker

  • scissors

  • Digital pattern booklet (purchased for $16 separately here). Each stocking pattern can also be purchased individually for $6. Once you have a digital pattern, we’d be happy to print a copy for you, if you’d prefer to look at a paper instead.

Skills needed:

To join this KAL you should already know how to knit, purl, cast on and bind off without assistance. Previous experience with knitting in the round is recommended, but not required. The pattern utilizes the following techniques: knitting in the round, picking up stitches, making an icord, reading a color chart, stranded color work, and duplicate stitch for names or motifs like the tree. We can assist you in learning these skills, but if they are all completely brand new to you, you might find the project a bit overwhelming.

We recommend the Tannenbaum Stocking (Tree sample) for newbies, and the Winterberry Stocking (Elise sample) for color work first timers.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
